Taizhou Vocational and Technical College was established in 1999. The college occupies 715 Mu including East ＆ West two campuses; It is a full-time college of higher learning sponsored by the municipal government. The college mainly shoulders the task of cultivating high-level practical technicians, who are able to take up the advanced manufacturing industry and modern service industry. Pan Zhangde is the present chairman of CPC committee of the college and Sheng Jian is the president of the college.
With engineering specialties as its main major, the college now includes 7 departments and 2 sections. They are Mechatronical Application Engineering Department, Electronics ＆ Electricity Engineering Department, Computer Science Engineering Department, Civil Engineering Department , Bio-Chemistry Engineering Department, Economy Management Department , Foreign Languages Department and Basic Courses Section. as well as Social Science Section. According to the demand of regional economy development, the college now has 20 majors, of which Electricity Technology and Mechtronical Technology Application, are national experimental units for teaching reform and key specialty in Zhejiang; Numerical Control Technology and Application is ranked to be the training center for badly-needed professionals in the country. It is also set to be a appraisal unit for nation professional skills by the Provincial Department of Labor and Social Security. There has been 67 modern experiment and training centers inside and the college, besides 10 large-scale teaching training bases outside the college. Mechatronical Application Technology plays an exemplary role in Zhejiang higher technical education, which was admitted by Zhejiang Education Bureau. Training bases have been set up in China Xingxing Group, Fei Yue Group and other 31 star enterprises
It has signed cooperative agreement and develops a horizontal cooperative relationship with Peking University, Chongqing University Southwest Science and Technology University, China Jiliang University, University of International Business and Economics, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Zhejiang University of Technology, Hongkong Institute of Vocational Education and Asamburne University 、 Kangan Batman TAFE , Australia.
The college has a highly qualified teaching staff, with the total teachers of 338, including 2 with Doctor’s degree, 75 with Master’s degree, 64 with the rank of Associate professor.
The college achieves a lot in the science and technology research and development. In the latest 3 years, according to the incomplete statistics, the college has been in charge of 16 theses at the provincial level and 4 co-operations with enterprises.132 academic theses were delivered to the public at home and abroad. Teachers compiled 21 copies of teaching material as editors-in-chief or sub-editors and 5 volumes of works, two of which were applied as major teaching materials for vocational education at college.
The college is devoted to the cultivation of high technology application talents. It insists on the guidance notion of running school, which is to stick to the three characteristics of our college, that is, higher education, vocational education and locality; and to alter teaching notion, to be world-oriented and market- oriented, to construct training pattern for practical technicians, to construct teaching system majoring in ability and skills, and to construct teaching group with double certifications. In the Computer Examination for Provincial Higher College, the college ranks among the best in the 77 high schools every year, and the passing rate in 2004 is 98.3%, which ranks fourth and is 21.64% higher than that of the average passing rate in Zhejiang Province; and excellence rate reaches 43.04%, which is 29.44% higher than that of the provincial excellence rate. The undergraduates share a good reputation among the manufacturing and service enterprises for their solid professional foundation, excellent experimental ability and all-around quality. The employment rates of the recent years are all over 95%.
