Gansu Baling Bridge

Baling Bridge, on the Weihe River south of Weiyuan City, was built during the years 1368-1398 in the reign of Ming Emperor Taizu. It stretches out four times from the two banks toward the center with cantilever beams, and changes into an overlapping beam arch in the center flying over 12 meters. The outline of the 1a verandahs on the bridge is of around reversed Curve, and the same is true of the outline under the bridge. It is more gentle and tender than the broken line of the Woqiao(bond) bridge. The bridge verandah, plus the height of the guard board under the bridge, makes the two ends thicker and linked to the brick wall of the house so they appear to be solid and steady. The center is thinner, but soars into mid-air. It is light, bright and elegant, looking like a rainbow when it hunches up.
