The Sydney Institute of Language and Commerce (SILC) is a Sino-Australian joint venture college of the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) and Shanghai University (SU). SILC was founded in 1994 and has an enrolment of over 3,300 students. The number of graduates has exceeded 8,000. SILC offers dual SU and UTS degrees and diplomas in business studies. Two Master Degree Programs, five Bachelor Degree Programs, three Diploma Programs and two Pathway Programs are currently offered.
Integration of SU and UTSĄŻs advantages, import of the high-quality educational resources from abroad, and adoption of the strict quality assurance measures, have all made SILC become the earliest and also the most successful Sino-foreign cooperative school in China. It is also the most prosperous cooperative educational venture that Australia has ever set up, and it enjoys a high reputation all over the world. In 2006, SILC was chosen as the pilot school to receive the accreditation on quality by the Shanghai Educational Commission, thus becoming the first Sino-foreign cooperative business school to receive the accreditation by State Authorized audit organization and the first school that has ever passed it.
  Every year we have 40 full ¨Ctime foreign teachers working at SILC, including 35 English language teachers and five business teachers. They are an irreplaceable part in the faculty team as they play an important role in improving all-round abilities of students and contributing to an international learning environment.
SILC English Department delivers English language subjects (mainly English for Academic Purposes and English for Business Purposes) within the degrees and diplomas. It also delivers full-time IELTS preparation courses for students wishing to enter the degree and diploma programmes.
