| Bohai University (BU), a comprehensive school in Liaoning Province, is located in Jinzhou-a well-known seaside city of historic interest. BU is founded in 1950, next to Bohai Sea-one of China's inner seas. For more than 50 years, BU has seen 100,000plus students graduated from it, who have made important contributions to China's socialism construction, and many of whom have been famous teachers or entrepreneurs in Liaoning Province or all around China.BU covers a total area of 140 hectares, and it has 400,000 square meters of building area. In BU, there are 6 departments, 15 sublevel schools, and 4 research institutes. There are 11 fields of study for master's degree, 32 fields of study for bachelor's degree, and 26 fields of study for advanced vocational and technical education. At present, there are totally 1,797 staff members, 975 of whom are teachers by profession, about 500 of whom are professors and associate professors. The scientific experiment center occupies 4,000 square meters of building area, equipped with advanced instruments.Through years of development, BU has set up more than 30 key curricula including Applied Mathematics, Theoretical Physics, Applied Chemistry, Pedagogical Principles, Curricula and Teaching Theory, and Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, etc. Many of the curricula have been ranked as provincial or national "Excellent Curricula".BU undertakes National Science Funds research tasks and national key research programs, and set up more than 20 research organizations such as Liaoxi Economy and Social Development Research Center, Liaoxi Bio-environment Institute, Functional Material Institute, Language Institute, and Mathematics Institute. The research on food quality and functional food as provincial important program plays an important role in the research field.At present, BU has established friendly relationships with schools in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, Russia etc. and has begun some international exchange programs. BU employs on a long-term basis foreign teachers of English and Japanese, enrolls international students, and sends abroad various groups of visitors and Chinese students. BU now enrolls four-year undergraduate international students with Chinese language and literature as their majors, and international students learning Chinese language on a long or short-term basis. Here, it has well-furnished and well-equipped apartments for foreign experts and international students, which are surrounded by beautiful campus scenery. |
