| School Information Founded in 1980, BWU was successively administered by the Bureau of National Material, the Ministry of Material and the Ministry of Internal Trade. Since October 1998, it has begun to be supervised by the Beijing Municipal Government. Only 20 kilometers east of the downtown Beijing, the campus is also quite close to the headwaters of the ancient Grand Canal. With its elegant environment and fresh air, BWU has been granted the glorious titles of Garden-like Campus and Civilization Campus by the Beijing Municipal Government. The campus covers an area of 23.33 hectares, with a floor space of 120,000 square meters. With the various studying and living facilities, BWU provides its students with a quiet and comfortable environment for study and daily life. The library of BWU has a collection of 270,000 volumes, also with all sorts of Chinese and foreign periodicals, magazines, textbooks and reference materials. Till now the goal of the first-phase of the establishment of the LAN for the university has been achieved. The total worth of its teaching instrumental equipment is nearly ten million RMB. Currently there are 7789 students in the institute. Among them, there are 5281 undergraduate students, 297 vocational education students, 2053 continuing education students, 115 graduate students. The institute possesses 108 professors and associate professors at present and 7 departments, 4 offices and 2 subordinate institutes. The 7 departments include, Economics Department, Business Administration Department, Accounting Department, Management Science and Engineering Department, Labor Personnel Department, Logistics Department and Foreign Language Department. The 4 offices include, Basic Course Teaching Office, Social Science Teaching Office, Physical Culture Teaching Office and Graduate Office. The 2 subordinate institutes include, Higher Vocational Technology Institute and Continuing Education Institute. Now we have set up 12 undergraduate specialties, 5 higher vocational specialties,4 master spots and 1 second degree spot, as well as circulation economy research institute, Logistics research center and CHINA CIRCULATION ECONOMY magazine agency, etc. Since the advent of the progress of reform and the policy of opening up, BWU attaches great importance to academic exchanges and friendly cooperation with universities and scientific research institutions in other countries. In 1988 it set up a long-tem friendly exchange relationship with the logistics Economy University of Japan. The relationship between the two institutions has achieved satisfactory development goal for several years by cooperating in subject research and exchanging students. Later on BWU signed another three formal agreement with American Bunker Hill Community College, the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology of Australia and the DID institute of Germany. Meanwhile it also keeps and develops its friendship with colleges and universities from over 20 countries, for example Japan, USA, Germany, Canada, Russia, Australia, and Singapore etc. |
