Brief Introduction to Suqian College
Suqian College is located in Suqian Municipality, Jiangsu Province, the historic birthplace of Ba Wang Xiang Yu (232-202 B.C.), noted Western Chu Hegemon of ancient China. The college is a state-sponsored, full-time institution of higher education, established on a spacious landscaped campus, between the ancient Yellow River on the west and the renowned Imperial Grand Canal on the east. The college was established in June, 2002.
Suqian College maintains a unique organizational pattern of being "co-sponsored by the municipal and provincial governments, jointly administered by eight major provincial universities, actively managed through mutual cooperation, and of being established by the public sector and operated by private enterprise." The college is administered through the Office of the President with the guidance of the Board of Directors.

The College focuses on cultivating experienced bachelor degree graduates , and provides courses of practical instruction in the arts and sciences, industry, agriculture, education, economics, law and management. There are 36 specialties for the four-year students and 10 specialties for the three-year students.
The College occupies a campus area of 1,118 mu (c. 175 acres). Currently, there are 14,600 students, including 12,000 undergraduates, and 609 full-time staff members. There are 184 College Professors and Associate Professors accounting for 32.6% of the teaching staff, and 211 staff members have either a Master’s Degree or a Ph.D., accounting for 37.3% of the total.

The College maintains extensive new teaching facilities, with equipment investments of more than 57,000,000 RMB (c. US$7,000,000). There also are thirty-eight new basic science laboratories and a variety of new technical buildings. The new college library has a total floor area of 30,000 square meters, and maintains a collection of some 1,000,000 volumes, and 1,300 periodicals. The college is equipped with more than 2,100 computer terminals for specialized instruction, and a new college-wide academic computer network with access to internet provides added efficiency and conveniences for both academic instruction and research.

Suqian College continues to develop and expand the spacious new campus grounds and is emerging as a modern new academic center, with an excellent teaching environment, advanced facilities, innovative academic instruction, student-oriented programming and activity centers, distinctive student dormitories and cafeterias, and providing unique educational opportunities. By the year 2010, the college anticipates a student enrollment of about 15,000.

Suqian College regards international academic programming and educational exchange as an important component in the development of quality education. The college is actively developing new programs concerning international communications and cooperation, and is making concerted efforts to expand global awareness and international exchange. Currently, the college has established intercollegiate communications with seven universities in the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Italy, South Korea and Singapore, and recently has reached an agreement for international academic cooperation. Currently, the college employs five international teachers from the United States of America, Canada, Australia and Japan. |
